7digital Teams Up With Sourcetone, LLC To Deliver A Unique Health-Based Digital Music Experience

Partnership advances new roles for music classification technology benefiting moods, activities, & health in entertainment, lifestyle and wellness sectors.

New York, NY —  Oct 15, 2012 — 7digital, a leading digital music and media delivery company today announced that it is partnering with Sourcetone, a New York City health-based research-driven music streaming company.  7digital provides digital music services to hundreds of partners globally including, Samsung, Research In Motion, T-Mobile USA, major record companies and now to Sourcetone, whose unique music classification software allows businesses and consumers to benefit from new ways of discovering and listening to music.

7digital’s feature rich API allows partners to choose between a number of software methods and a global catalog of over 20 million songs from all the major and independent music label distributors and aggregators.  The flexibility of this offering has provided music and lifestyle brands, major CE companies, carriers and partners from other sectors, a quicker, legally licensed approach to market.  This will be 7digital’s first partnership with a company focused on the health and wellness sector.

7digital’s President of North America, Vickie Nauman comments, “We are very interested in working with organizations that are concentrating on a specific and niche market for music.  There are many companies trying to be everything to everyone, yet the history of music and radio demonstrate that targeted services for select music fans can be very successful.  The research that Sourcetone has done to understand how music can be used in the health sector is impressive and we are excited to allow our API to provide a streaming and MP3 catalog in this setting.”

“Our partnering requirements extended beyond the need for a large digital music delivery platform”, said Dr. Jeff Berger, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sourcetone.  He added, “7digital’s team provides flexible and technically-supported access to the vast music library required for Sourcetone’s Music Classification System Technology®(MCST™), the proprietary engine that powers our Mood, Activity, and Health channels.”  Malcolm Goodman, Co-Founder and President stated, “I am excited that the integration of our research and technology with 7Digital’s high quality music delivery system advances our mission to help people and businesses benefit through the joy of listening to music.”

To date, over 12 million songs from 7digital’s catalog have been coded and classified into 21 Mood Activity and Health channels using the MCST™.  Those channels are the core offering of a suite of Sourcetone products which include mobile apps, online radio, music for public spaces, as well customized classification capability for third party use and a unique widget music player that can be placed on a company’s website to help visitors stick around.  Overall, MCST™ technology facilitates a ground-breaking “lifestyle-driven” role for music classification and promotes a unique music discovery/song management experience for end users.

Both companies continue working together to improve an already robust combined service, adding 400,000 new songs to the library each month and implementing advanced user personalization features.  The joint partnership can promote its 21 Mood, Activity and Health channels as the most comprehensive mood-based streaming offering available anywhere, on a scale not offered by anyone else in the world.

Sourcetone Launches Game Changing Technology Promising Music-Induced Performance, Lifestyle, And Health Benefits

NEW YORK, NY (July 9, 2012) Sourcetone LLC – a research-driven, music streaming company is advancing new roles for music technology benefiting moods, activities, & health in business, wellness, educational, retail, cultural and recreational environments.  A number of music classification applications which involve use of either Sourcetone’s 10M+ pre-classified song library or any music library comprised of digital audio files are now available for businesses seeking  high value/low cost alternatives to traditional marketing.

Dr. Jeff Berger, one of Sourcetone’s founders stated,“Sourcetone is a win-win for businesses, allowing our clients to not only capture new revenue streams, but also help customers achieve a healthy lifestyle through the joy of listening to music.”  He continued,“To that end, we’ve identified 21 essential everyday Mood, Activity and Health channels drawn from clinical and technological research conducted by Sourcetone and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)/Harvard Medical School (HMS) over an 8 year period with research ongoing”.

Dr. Gottfried Schlaug, one of the world’s leading researchers on music and the brain and also Principal Medical Researcher, Director of Music and Neuroimaging at BIDMC/HMS is a principal Sourcetone advisor.  Dr.Schlaug has worked closely with musicians, neurobiologists & cognitive neuroscientists and has written over 125 peer-reviewed papers.  Dr. Schlaug states, “Sourcetone is unique in the Internet marketplace by basing its medical and therapeutic applications on basic and clinical research assessing the effects of music and its components on emotion, behavior, and cognition.”

Transformation of those research outcomes into a ground-breaking product fell under the purview of Dr. Robert Rowe, Director of Research for Sourcetone and Director of the Dept. of Music and Performing Arts Professions at NYU.  Dr. Rowe’s team built Sourcetone’s proprietary Music Classification System Technology® (MCST™), a next-generation software trained to automatically predict the emotional response of human listeners to any audio recording.  MCST’s uniqueness draws primarily on its use of cognitive, emotional and neurophysiological outcomes of the BIDMC/HMS research combined with advanced machine learning algorithms.  The results, software that uniquely classifies any raw, untagged audio file while minimizing subjectivity.  Metadata tagging is the technique most heavily relied upon by competitor streaming services and is prone to higher levels of subjectivity which is likely to produce more generalized song selections.

When it comes to automatic prediction of emotional responses to music Sourcetone’s MCST™ stands apart.  “There is nothing in the marketplace that compares to the MCST™,” commented Dr. Rowe.  “In a systematic evaluation and testing of the MCST™ against other prediction models, the MCST™ outperformed comparable efforts and is based on a data set that is over twice as large as the next largest comparable study.”

Sourcetone is giving businesses a jump on the technology.  Summer rollouts include: B2B Music Streaming, a client website hosted widget link music player in a ready-to-use customizable format.  The client-branded widget helps website visitors to stick around and also allow them to personalize the music listening experience by selecting a favorite genre of music from a specific range of years; Music for Public Spaces, a cost-effective web-controlled public spaces streaming service; and Licensing of its Classifier, providing music classifications into 21 Mood, Activity and Health channels using either Sourcetone’s 10M+ song library or client-owned libraries.

Sourcetone’s D2C consumer product rollouts will immediately follow business rollouts during the third quarter of 2012.  These will include: launch of Sourcetone Radio, a free and premium online music streaming service designed to benefit daily living; Sourcetone Radio App, offering listeners mobile access to Sourcetone¹s mood, activity and health music channels while engaged in activities like walking, running, and driving; and the Sourcetone Classifier App which allows consumers to use Sourcetone’s classification methods to tag and organize their music files according to mood, activity, and health needs. All apps will be available on both iOS and Android operating systems.
