Optic™

Optic™ builds on the extensive library of audio analysis tools Sourcetone has developed to describe and manipulate sound files. In the first of what will become a series of analysis visualization, recording, and distribution plugins, OPTIC™ implements four fundamental audio descriptors: RMS amplitude, zero-crossing rate, spectral centroid, and spectral flatness.

Features

  • Optic™ offers a number of options that you can use to analyze your audio signals and control the outputs of the analysis. You are always able to visualize the analysis in the plugin window while your sound file plays. You can also re-route the analysis values via ReWire or MIDI to any other application, or even the host application itself.
  • You can use Optic™ in a special standalone mode to analyze an entire sound file and save the analysis values in a time-stamped text file as either XML or comma-separated values. The standalone mode will be particularly valuable for researchers who want to preserve the exact temporal locations of the various feature values for their audio.
  • The ability to direct analysis values through ReWire or MIDI gives you the power to use them as a control signal. Change filter settings according to the spectral centroid, or affect parameter settings in your other plugins from the outputs of any of the OPTIC™ features.
  • You can even send MIDI signals back to the host application, changing amplitude or frequency or any other MIDI-sensitive parameter in Reason, Live, Peak, or any of the other VST or Audio Unit plugin applications. The possible applications of analytical control signals are unlimited – Optic's™ routing options give you the power to determine how and where they will be used.

Modifi™

Based on an extension of traditional ring modulators, Modifi™ creates sounds ranging from subtly varying soundscapes through classic science-fiction-movie effects to extreme mutations and beyond. Using a variety of features that allow you to combine signals in different ways, Modifi™ will quickly become one of the most valuable plugins in your repertoire.

Features

  • Now you can choose how your carrier signal is modulated in a number of ways. The intensity of the effect can range from mild to off-the-charts extreme!
  • The SINE option allows you to implement traditional ring modulation, using a sine wave of any desired frequency as a modulator signal and the original sound source as the carrier signal.
  • The RM option allows you to use a second sine wave to ring modulate the modulator. The primary frequency of the modulator is thereby suppressed, leaving two sideband frequencies with which to ring modulate the input carrier signal.
  • Similar to the RM option, the AM option modulates the modulator using a second sine wave, but through amplitude modulation rather than ring modulation. In this case, the primary frequency of the modulator remains present in addition to the two side-bands, producing three evenly spaced frequencies to ring modulate the input carrier signal.
  • The LFO option allows you to vary the modulator frequency by a rate you set in the secondary modulator screen, generating a rich, oscillating sound.
  • With Modifi™, you have the option of viewing the full frequency spectrum of both the input and output signals. These views allow you to gauge both parameters of the effect as well as compare the original input to the modified output. The X and Y-axis zoom allow you to quickly and easily scrutinize specific detail areas of the frequency spectrum. X zoom focuses in on specific frequency bands, while the Y zoom tightens or expands the amplitude view.
